WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a system of healing
and has been practised in China
and other Western countries for
thousands of years. It is a long
established form of medicine used
in the treatment of many aliments
anywhere from the common cold
through to physical injuries.
Acupuncture has
gained a huge surge in popularity
in the Western world over recent
decades. With medication resistance
reaching crisis point and society
demanding more from the health service
than it can provide, Acupuncture
offers a safe, reliable and non-toxic
alternative form of treatment.

WHO DOES IT WORK FOR?
Acupuncture works
really well in treating people of
all ages with all sorts of conditions,
illnesses and allergies, etc…
It is important to advise the practitioner
if you are pregnant, but pregnancy
does not preclude acupuncture or
its benefits.
Babies and young children are also
welcome and thrive with Acupuncture.
Child needles are painless, extremely
small and are kept in for only a
few seconds.

If you are suffering
from unwanted symptoms, injuries
or aliments, then maybe it is time
to seek an alternative treatment
to manage these.
Traditional Chinese
Medicine can offer support, relief
and cures. Many common aliments
can be treated economically and
painlessly using acupuncture.

HOW IT WORKS
Traditional Chinese
Medicine describes channels or pathways
of energy pathways of energy flowing
through the body (meridians). These
nourish the body’s tissues
and organs. Disease occurs when
these channels become disrupted.
Acupuncture acts to restore the
normal energy flow.
Rigorous scientific research confirms
that acupuncture relieves pain,
regulates nerve transmission, enhances
immunity and regulates hormones
and blood flow. It also elevates
mood.
Acupuncture is promoted as a beneficial
treatment by the World Health Organisation
for over 100 conditions.

DIAGNOSING AND POINTS CHOOSEN
After thorough
consultation, the treatment is decided
upon according to the diagnosis.
The points which are chosen are
specific to the condition being
treated and the associated symptoms.

TREATMENT
Treatment by acupuncture
consists of the insertion of fine
needles into a few carefully selected
points on the body. The number of
needles used varies from two or
three, to ten or more and are left
in place on an average of twenty
minutes. The total number of treatments
required depends on the patient
and the condition being treated.
A typical treatment may also include
ear seeds, moxa (warming of the
acupuncture points), acupressure,
herbal medicine and dietary/ exercise
advice.

DOES IT HURT?
The treatment
is usually painless, producing a
buzzing, tingling sensation and
relaxation of the body and mind.
All needles are sterile use only.
Needle sterilisation practised by
Acupuncturist, complies with standards
set by the NZ Department of Health.
Please inform your practitioner
if you are pregnant, have a history
of HIV or Hepatitis, or other medical
conditions.
